Reordering Portfolios

New feature added tonight: drag and drop ordering of your included portfolios. (Previously they were listed alphabetically by default, and this couldn’t be changed.)

Faster Film

My handful of beta testers will be happy to know that there are now synchronization features on the site. This allows changes on flickr to be imported in real time. Synchronization happens automatically every day around midnight, but now everybody can do it anytime if they’ve made changes on flickr and would like to see them show up on their Major White site.

Other than that, the ongoing work has been happening behind the scenes as I move my development environment from Site5’s servers onto my new MacBook Pro. This’ll make the development process much faster, which is good, as there are tons of new features on the way. This thing is still pretty far from version 1.0.

Introducing Major White

Major White is a free online portfolio site for photographers. It’s still in beta; in the spirit of launching early and often, I launched it before it was ready for prime time. This caused stress which caused focus which caused productivity. This happened about a week ago.

My goal with the site is to combine the reliable photography hosting of Flickr.com with simple, minimalist design a la Zen Photo to provide a portfolio service like FolioLink, except for free. Billy Eggleston could upload his work to flickr, point billyeggleston.com at his Major White account, and get reliable, cleanly presented galleries online. Even amateur photographers with no domain and with limited internet experience deserve a space where they can have select portfolios displayed without clutter, if they so choose. That’s what this site is for. I thought Major White was a funny name for a minimalist photography site, and the domain was available, so that’s what it’s called.
